A2Z plans 15 MW biomass power plant in Kanpur using RFD (Refuse Derived Fuel). Solid municipal waste is to get converted to refuse derived fuel. About 100 tonnes of municipal waste is adequate to set up 1 MW plant and Kanpur being one of the larger municipal corporation generates 1500 tonnes of waste. The biomass plant is likely to go operational by March 2011

Indian Oil Corp to invest in bio fuel seeds - jatropha and karanjia

Indian Oil Corp is planning to take up plantation of bio fuel seeds like jatropha and karanjia in waste lands in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It will deploy contract farming to cultivate the bio diesel seeds. The company has already acquired around 30,000 hectares of land in Chhattisgarh and around 20000 ha of land in Madhya Pradesh. Around 1000 hectares of land is already cultivated and plans to increase it to 10,000 ha this year. The turnaround period for bio diesel seeds is 3-4 years. It seems the government is also promoting with minimum support price and constituting a National Bio fuel Fund and a National Bio fuel Coordination Committee. It may be noted, IOC R&D is extensively testing bio diesel with Indian Railways and Haryana Roadways to meet stringent international standards.

Bajaj Hindustan Ltd had set up 13 MW biomass project at Thanabhawan,

Bajaj Hindustan Ltd had set up 13 MW biomass project at Thanabhawan in Shamli Taluk in Uttar Pradesh. The project involves setting up of two new turbines of Beliss make back pressure type of capacity 10 MW and 3 MW. The power generated will be stepped up and evacuated to 132 KV Lalukheri sub-station.

Bhageshwari Papers had set up a 6 MW biomass project

Bhageshwari Papers Pvt Ltd had set up a 6 MW rice husk based biomass project at Bhopa Road in Muzaffarpur district in Uttar Pradesh. The project involves setting up of a condensing cum extraction turbine and one boiler to generate 6 MW of power. The total project cost is estimated at Rs. 122 million.
