Lakshadeep government to build 10 MW biomass plant

Lakshadeep Government is planning to set up a 10 MW biomass based power plant. Currently, the islands are facing huge costs in use of diesel generators. As per expert studies, biomass is found to be more suitable than other renewable energy options. Wind power is ruled out because of lack of land, while biomass which is found in plenty in form of coconut shells. An expression of interest is likely to be invited to build the plant on BOOT basis.

Indian Railways plans bio-diesel plant at Yelankha

Indian Railways, the largest consumer of diesel in India is planning to set up a bio-diesel plant in Yelankha near Bangalore . Karnataka State Biofuel Task Force has been an active agent in converting a portion KSRTC buses to run on blended 7.7 blend bio-diesel bringing a savings of Rs.220 million a year. Emami, another leading player in this field is also interested to pump money to produce 300 liters of bio disesel per day with imported seeds. These plants will focus on Jatropha but also on other short gestation multiple crops.
